What's Going On in My Head?

Last weeks blog I covered the thoughts that occur in our minds. Now we want to get those thoughts out of our heads and onto paper. Your next step is to do a THOUGHT DOWNLOAD. This is a time where you sit down and do a "free write" for about 10 minutes to get all of your thoughts onto paper and out of your head. This will become a daily practice for you. Once you do the thought download, you will look at the sentences you wrote down and distinguish between the facts and your thoughts. Yes, there is a difference. Sometimes, we think a thought is a fact. For example, "I am too busy to get all of this stuff done", or "I am overwhelmed".

Are those thoughts a fact or a thought? If you guessed a thought then you are correct. A fact is something that EVERYONE agrees on. Your list might seem like a lot to you, but perhaps not so much to someone else. Can it be proven in a court of law?

Yes, you probably have a lot to accomplish. Yes, you are working hard to fit it all in. But, if you let those two particular thoughts convince you that you are too busy, your FEELINGS about those thoughts will create a certain ACTION, and that action will create the RESULTS you have in your life.

Circumstance: Chores/Work

Thought: "I'm too busy to finish what I need to do"

Feeling: *Overwhelmed

Action: Spin out in my mind about all I need to do and I don't make organized lists

Result: I don't finish what I need to do

What I want to share is that a lot of people run around with a lot to do but without a plan. When your actions are not organized you are reactive to everything there is to do. You want to fuel your actions with positive thoughts. Instead of choosing the negative thought "I'm too busy to finish what I need to do". You can use this thought:

Circumstance: Chores/Work

Thought: I have a plan to get as much done as I can today

Feeling: In control

Action: You look at your list that you have created and you get to work

Result: I finished a bunch of things today.

"When you consciously decide to fuel your life well, you will energize your body and mind. This will allow you to get so much more done in a shorter amount of time". - Brooke Castillo

Remember the thoughts in your mind will create the reality in your life.

Your mind needs to be organized before you start organizing your life, otherwise the changes will only be temporary.

If everything is just "good" you will not have room for "GREAT"!

Next week I will show you how to say "Goodbye" to the stuff in your life to make room for GREAT! I will show you how to decide AND to say goodbye. If we don't say goodbye we will just accumulate too much.

*I want to spend a little bit of time explaining how overwhelm is an indulgent emotion. I wrote about this in a previous post and I felt like I didn't do enough explaining on the idea of "indulgent" emotions. Indulgence is a term we as life coaches use. It means, if we spend too much time on an emotion that gives us a net-negative outcome (overwhelm, doubt, etc. ), it is considered indulgent. If we are allowing net-negative thoughts rule our feelings/emotions, and actions on a day to day basis, which ultimately affect our results in life. The good news is that the thoughts of overwhelm can be managed over time. I'm not saying that struggles will be roses, rainbows and cute puppies. I'm just saying that if our minds aren't organized and we don't utilize tools such as a "thought download", we can be consumed by our negative thoughts and not see the results we ultimately want in our lives. It takes work and practice. Yes, we will all have indulgent emotions. I want to tell you that you can manage those thoughts and not get lost in them. If you want to go deeper and explore this with me:

LIFE COACHING- Now Available

Life Coaching is not about giving advice or focusing on traumas of your past, but rather showing you your thoughts and how they are impacting your life so that you are empowered to choose different thoughts and ultimately get different results in your life.

I am happy to coach on anything you'd like to work on. It doesn't have to be about organizing. It can be anything that you find yourself dwelling on and not making forward progress in your life, i.e. a situation with a friend, sister, brother, husband, mother, teacher, etc.

As your Life Coach I would not empathize with you, cry with you or judge you… it's different than talking to you as you would your friends, sisters, brothers, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers.

I would be a COACH.

I would simply help show you what's going on in your brain and we would look at that together. We would talk about any problem or frustration you are having or anything you want to change about your life.
