Digital Uncluttering

Do you feel overwhelmed when you turn on your computer or phone and see all of the notifications? Too many apps and emails to sort through? Is your desktop cluttered with documents and saved items? Seeing all of that can create an unnoticeable stress and sense of overwhelm. Here are some easy steps to clearing your digital life.
1. Unsubscribe- Unfortunately, I have to unsubscribe from mailings that I didn't even sign up for. I've tested a few things out when I've shopped online and I swear the marketing departments of big companies disregard my requests to not be added to an email mailer. One day, I was so frustrated that I even had my kids watch my steps as I ordered something online to prove to myself that I wasn't crazy. I was trying to show them that even if you mark the box for NOT receiving future emails and promotions, I still get added to the list. So I checked the box and sure enough within 5 minutes I had a email mailer from that company offering a special. My point is, there is no getting around email mailers. So I just resign to the fact that I must spend a little extra time a day to unsubscribe. I always clear my junk mail folder every day, too, (several times a day).
2. Clear your desktop- It's a beautiful thing to have a clean desktop. When your computer turns on and you have way too many documents and pictures on your desktop, it can be overwhelming. Especially when you are looking for something in a hurry and your eyes need to scan over way too many icons. Make folders to store your most important items. Don't have them spread all over your desktop.
3. Clear unused apps- Too many apps on your phone can cause distractions. I have only the apps that I use daily on my home screen. The rest are on other pages or folders so I'm not tempted to let social media be a time suck for me.
4. Notifications- Let's face it, every time you get a notification, your thoughts are interrupted. We have a "I need to know" mentality about what is beeping at us. This can be easily remedied if you simply turn off your notifications.
5. Unflollow- If you are spending time on social media. You don't need to follow everyone that asks to follow you. If you do, it will clutter up your newsfeed. Follow things that inspire and motivate. Like my Facebook and Instagram :) !!

Keep it Sweet and Neat,
