The greatest amount of wasted time is the time not getting started.

Still needing some help to get you out of your indecisions? Still not able to tackle your to do's and feeling overloaded which leads you to feeling down and overwhelmed? I want to share some insights as to how your brain works. My goal is to have you change your thinking to help propel you to motivate yourself to the "you" you want to be.
Let's start with procrastination. It is a big part of decision fatigue. The definition of procrastination is:
pro·cras·ti·na·tion
prəˌkrastəˈnāSH(ə)n/
noun
the action of delaying or postponing something.
The psychology behind procrastination is the Motivational Triad. For those of you that like psychology, you might have heard of this.
The motivational triad lives in our primitive brain. It worked when we were struggling to survive day to day when we were living in a cave. But now it slows us down.
What is it? All humans are wired to:
1. Seek Pleasure
2. Avoid Pain
3.With the least amount of effort
It’s so much easier to avoid our nagging to do list-hide and hide in our cave = avoiding the discomfort.
We need to reverse the motivational triad in order to be the person we want to be. To help us to grow into the person we want to be.
Decision Fatigue:
Refers to the deteriorating quality of decisions made by an individual after a long session of decision making. It is now understood as one of the causes of irrational trade-offs in decision making.
What ends up happening is you start indulging in confusion.
You are living in “I don’t know”.
You are not moving forward.
It doesn’t serve you in your purpose in this world!
GOOD NEWS:
There are NO wrong decisions.
Everything happens the way it was supposed to happen.
It’s our path-It creates who you are.
We learn from our “mistakes”.
Why Make Decisions?
1. Saves you time
Not making a decision is a decision!
We decide to stay where we are without making the decision.
2. It increases your action- Once you decide you move forward = reward that feels good that you have motion = increase confidence.
When you are doubtful it diminishes your confidence.
3. Increase growth
Tip:
If there are tough decisions- give yourself a time limit to make it. If it feels scary that’s OK!! That’s what make us grow.
Small victories everyday.
Celebrate them.
Have thoughts of Gratitude about them when your head hits the pillow.
Fear is not a good reason to not do something.
Discomfort is not a good reason to not do something.
That’s what makes us grow.
POWER HOUR! A tool to help you GET IT DONE!!
I wish I could take credit for it, but credit should be given where credit is due. Gretchen Rubin (whom you know from my previous blog that you can read HERE) has a great podcast and shared this idea on the podcast and in her blog.
It's so simple and so effective.
Make a date with yourself once a week.
No distractions.
Plan ahead and make your to do list.
Spend ONE hour getting things done as fast as you can.
Here are some things on my POWER HOUR list:
Hang pictures in master bathroom
Hang pictures in daughter bathroom
Put contact paper in two kitchen drawers
Put contact paper on shelf under sink
Take food out of fridge and wipe down shelves
Clean out T-shirt drawer (put items in donation bag and put in back of my car)
Make dentist appointment
Plant vegetable seeds
Oh boy, it just feels great planning for that POWER HOUR! You will have enormous satisfaction doing a POWER HOUR! I guarantee that you will look forward to your next power hour that you plan!
