Thank you for Visiting My Blog Today!
My new favorite motto is Done is Better Than Perfect! I immediately feel a sense of peace just saying that to myself. I credit myself with moving through my jobs quickly because I don't really care if it's perfect. I just want to have the gratification of checking off another item on my to do list.
Perfect is the enemy of good by Voltaire
Do you think you would get more done if you said that phrase to yourself? Try it on for a while and see how much you get done or better yet, perhaps you'll actually get started on something that you have put off in the last few months. You will find yourself in a blissful state of momentum. One task done begets another task done. The grand feeling of self accomplishment will fill you up with self-esteem! Truly we know that no one is perfect. All you can do is try your best! I am not good at putting away my laundry. I put it off because in my mind it takes too long to finish especially if I want everything to be folded just right. The reason that I really want my clothes to be folded is so when I reach for them they are not too wrinkled. I had my laundry sitting in my laundry basket for two days and last night when I was inspired by Done is Better Than Perfect, I decided to just get it done because just looking at it in the basket for two days was bringing me down! So I got it done and sure enough it took my only about 10 minutes. Some day when I have more time to dedicate to the details I will fold my laundry better. Right now I just want to spend my time helping others get organized and I want to spend time being creative in my business! Once you master done is better than perfect you can go back to your projects and tweak them in to a masterpiece of your liking.
Remember getting things done little by little and not to perfection helps you move on. Don't be discouraged by chores and projects that are too big to handle in your mind. Break things down and write them on a piece of paper.
There are so many creative geniuses that get things done and not wait for perfection. We might be missing out on some wonderful things if musicians, software companies, Silicon Valley employees, inventors waited for perfect. I found this quote in my research that gives a good understanding to getting things done by Mark Zuckerberg. He was trying to enlist investors:
"Hackers try to build the best services over the long term by quickly releasing and learning from smaller iterations rather than trying to get everything right all at once. To support this, we have built a testing framework that at any given time can try out thousands of versions of Facebook. We have the words “Done is better than perfect” painted on our walls to remind ourselves to always keep shipping".
Some say we shouldn't even strive for perfection. Author Anne Lamott says,
"Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life, and it is the main obstacle between you and a shitty first draft. I think perfectionism is based on the obsessive belief that if you run carefully enough, hitting each stepping-stone just right, you won’t have to die. The truth is that you will die anyway and that a lot of people who aren’t even looking at their feet are going to do a whole lot better than you, and have a lot more fun while they’re doing it".
Get out of your own way and start getting things done.
